The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the volunteer uniformed service of the United States Coast Guard. Congress established the civil reserve force in 1939 under title 14, chapter 23 of the U.S. Code. We are a civilian member organization charged with promoting boater safety; ensuring safety and security of our ports, waterways, and coastal regions; and supporting Coast Guard operational, administrative, and logistical requirements.

The Auxiliary is a uniformed service under the command of the Coast Guard's Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety (CG-BSX) within the office of the Deputy Commandant for Operations (CG-DCO) under the United States Department of Homeland Security
